We believe that every single one of us in North Carolina deserves to have healthy food on the table.

SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is a lifeline for over 1.4 million North Carolinians—including children, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and families working hard to get ahead. It doesn’t just help people buy groceries; it supports our local farmers, creates jobs in our grocery stores, and keeps our state’s economy moving forward.

Right now, changes in federal policy mean that North Carolina faces a big choice about the future of SNAP in our state. It is up to our elected leaders to ensure that North Carolina continues to participate in the SNAP program. Organizations, partners, and community members across North Carolina are working together to make sure our state leaders choose to protect SNAP so that no family is left behind.

SNAP makes our families, our communities, and our state economy stronger. 

• Close to 1.3 million people in North Carolina receive monthly SNAP nutrition benefits—most of those are children under 17!
• SNAP brings $2.8 billion in grocery purchasing power to North Carolina.
• SNAP dollars are spent in our local grocery stores, community markets, and farmers markets. Each SNAP dollar spent on food generates up to $1.80 in local economic activity.
• SNAP keeps local food providers in business so that everyone in the community has access to food. SNAP dollars are spent at more than X retailers across North Carolina. SNAP spending drives up to 45% of grocery store sales in North Carolina and 20% of sales at farmers markets.
• SNAP is a critical source of nutrition support for people who are not able to work. SNAP is also a lifeline for families who do work, but struggle to afford the basics because they are paid low wages or can’t get enough work hours. Most North Carolina SNAP households are families who earn income from work. 86% of North Carolina SNAP households had earned income from work in the past 12 months.
