Protect NC Medicaid

This coalition was formed following the incredible advocacy efforts of the Care4Carolina coalition to expand Medicaid in our state. This broad group of healthcare advocates were brought together to ensure North Carolina’s Medicaid program that serves over 3 million people - over 700,000 are part of the expansion - are able to maintain coverage in our state.

Now, the Keeping NC Medicaid strong coalition builds on these efforts to ensure that North Carolina’s Medicaid program works for the people who need it most. Convening the diverse health care ecosystem our work continues to support policy that ensures Medicaid remains strong.

We follow 3 priorities to Keep NC Medicaid Strong

Fully Fund Medicaid: Support measures that provide adequate funding for the program and all requirements. To maintain and grow confidence in the Medicaid system for beneficiaries, payers, and all others who are impacted by the system.
Model NC Medicaid: Ensure North Carolina has a strong program that covers the most people, offers comprehensive benefits, and has a stable, sustainable future.
Sustain Expansion: Prevent enactment of the trigger law, support a stable and sustainable healthcare workforce, and ensure beneficiaries and providers have what they need for Medicaid to remain accessible and effective.

Medicaid expansion was a success for North Carolina and the hundreds of thousands of people who are able to get care. In the wake of H.R. 1, signed into law 2025, this coalition convened to develop these pillars to guide our advocacy efforts to keep expansion in place and ensure our program remains strong. In addition to working with partners to ensure that Medicaid evolves with the requirements of the bill, our efforts are aligned to ensure that the program serves beneficiaries and healthcare entities as intended.
