NC House Passes Budget – Includes Funding for
the Healthy Corner Store Initiative
and You Quit, Two Quit
On May 19, the North Carolina House of Representatives passed their version of the budgetin a 103-12 vote. The budget included both funding for the Healthy Corner Store Initiative and You Quit, Two Quit. The Senate is expected to introduce and vote on the Senate budget by June 3. A Conference Committee will then discuss both budgets and come to an agreement on differences.
The Healthy Corner Store Initiative
The House budget included $300,000 for the creation of the Healthy Corner Store Initiativein North Carolina. The funding would come from the Community Development Block Grant in the Department of Commerce. Last year, the House included $1 million for the creation of the Initiative in their budget.

You Quit, Two Quit
The House budget also included $250,000 for You Quit, Two Quit to help women who are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant quit smoking.
