Good news and bad news at NCAH

It is with very mixed emotions that we advise you that our wonderful staff member Sarah Jacobson, who has been NCAH’s Healthy Food Access Coordinator for the past two years, will be leaving the Alliance on November 20 (that is the bad news!) to take a great new opportunity with the American Heart Association as the Government Relations Director for North Carolina (that is the good news!).

Sarah has been an amazing colleague and an instrumental part of NCAH’s success in raising awareness about the importance of access to healthy food and our legislative efforts on the Healthy Corner Store Initiative. For many of you, Sarah was your first introduction to the Alliance, Voices for Healthy Kids, and healthy corner stores.

While we will miss Sarah, she is not going very far from our work. In her new position with the American Heart Association, we will still have many opportunities to collaborate on obesity-related policy—and hopefully some of our tobacco policy work as well. If you want to send Sarah a note her email is

We wish Sarah all the best in her new job and know that her “heart” will always be in healthy food.

If you have any questions, please contact Peg O’Connell at We will soon be announcing our process for seeking candidates for this position, so stay tuned!

From all of us at NCAH, good luck, Sarah!
