NCAH’s committees provide the primary opportunity to contribute to the development of policy positions and strategies as well as organizational structure and process. Each committee chooses at least two policy priorities in which NCAH will focus on in the upcoming legislative session. A list of NCAH’s policy committees are as follows:
The Obesity Prevention Committee chose healthy food financing and physical education in schools as the two primary policy priorities for 2018. This committee is divided into two workgroups that meet on an as-needed basis: Physical Education and Healthy Food Access. Please see the obesity prevention policy priorities for a complete list of policies supported and monitored by this committee.
Tobacco Use Prevention
The Tobacco Use Prevention Committee chose promoting tobacco use prevention program funding and cessation program funding as the two primary policy priorities for 2018. Please see the tobacco prevention policy priorities for a complete list of policies supported and monitored by this committee.
All other NCAH committees meet on an as-needed basis and include the Membership Engagement Committee, Fundraising Committee, Nominating Committee, and Health Equity Committee.
Unless otherwise noted, all committee meetings take place at the American Heart Association
Throughout the year NCAH holds calls for each policy committee to discuss strategies relevant to NCAH’s policy campaigns. These calls are a great way to stay informed about NCAH’s policy priorities and to influence decisions pertinent to NCAH’s campaigns. Strategy calls are held weekly during legislative session. When the legislature is not in session these calls are held during the first week of the month.
