More Facts & Research

The NC Alliance for Health gathers materials that substantiate that increasing the cigarette tax will protect the public's health- especially that of children AND pregnant smokers. You will also find information about what other states are doing to protect the public health by increasing the cost of their cigarettes. North Carolina's cigarette tax of 35 cents per pack (as of Sept. '05) is the 6th lowest in the nation. The average cigarette tax among all 50 states is now 92 cents per pack of cigarettes. Each year 24,000 children in NC become regular smokers.
