History

The North Carolina Alliance for Health is an independent, statewide coalition of organizations and individuals advocating for policies that promote wellness and reduce the impact of obesity and tobacco use. NCAH was created in 2002 and now includes over 75 statewide organizational members and partners including the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, NC Pediatric Society, NC Prevention Partners, NC Association of Local Health Directors, the Covenant with NC’s Children, March of Dimes, State Employees Association of NC, the American Lung Association, the Council of Churches, Be Active NC, NCAAHPERD and many more.

The most significant policy issues NCAH has taken on include advocacy, media and grassroots campaigns around the following issues;

  • Increasing NC’s cigarette tax (2003-2005, 2009);
  • Making the General Assembly buildings smoke-free in 2006;
  • Making all state-government buildings smoke-free in 2007; and,
  • Making all restaurants and bars smoke-free in 2009 (HB 2).

We encourage you to become a member and join us in our efforts to impact health policy issues in North Carolina. You and your organization can be a part of NCAH’s history. Advocate for obesity and tobacco use prevention policies to promote health and wellness within our great state.
